Everyone deserves a place to stay on the journey home.

A Place to Stay: A Neighborhood of Cabins

New Beginnings provides twenty cabins in a supportive neighborhood where people can finally breathe, rest, and begin again. Each cabin offers dignity and privacy; our staff and resident-led council provide safety and accountability.

Too many of our neighbors in Northwest Arkansas have spent years in tents, abandoned buildings, and unsafe spaces. Without stability, even the best intentions fall apart.

Stories of New Beginnings

Meet Tim & Carolyn

Tim and Carolyn grew up in Bentonville and never imagined they’d lose everything. While Tim was serving in Bosnia, Carolyn was in a car accident that left her with severe back injuries. Medical bills and lost income piled up, and soon they lost their home. After addiction set in and losing custody of their kids, they lived in the woods for years. When they came to New Beginnings, it wasn’t easy—but with time and support, they healed, reunited with their children, and found stability once again.

Meet Tony

Tony had served his country and built a career at Tyson, but after a difficult divorce his life unraveled. Depression took hold, and before long he was living in his car, spending his days drifting through parks with no sense of purpose. “I didn’t have any motivation left,” he remembers. “I thought maybe this was just how it would end.” Like so many of our neighbors, Tony’s story shows how quickly a crisis can spiral into chronic homelessness—and how difficult it can be to escape without support.

Meet Robert

Robert came to New Beginnings deeply skeptical. With mental health struggles and little trust in people, he was ready to camp in the woods until the day he died. His only reliable companion was his dog, Wassim. But in time, Robert found stability in our neighborhood—joining the resident leadership council and gradually letting others in. Over two years at New Beginnings, we walked alongside him: helping cover background checks and application fees, advocating at the housing authority, and supporting him through therapy appointments. That persistence paid off. Robert secured a Section 8 voucher and moved into a place of his own. Today he still calls when he needs help, but he’s no longer alone in the woods—he has a home, his dog, and a community that believes in him.

The New Beginnings Model

Behind every success story is a neighborhood. At New Beginnings, stability begins with safe housing, grows stronger through support, and leads to lasting change as residents rebuild their lives.

Housing

Every resident begins with the dignity of their own cabin—a safe, stable place that offers privacy and security after years of uncertainty.

Support

Case managers, healthcare partners, and a resident-led community council walk alongside each person, providing guidance, accountability, and encouragement.

Growth

With stability and support in place, residents can focus on rebuilding—pursuing income, life skills, and the confidence needed to move into permanent housing.

The Gardens at New Beginnings

Stepping Stones Gardens

At the heart of A Place to Stay, residents cultivate more than vegetables—they cultivate dignity and self-reliance. In our 14 raised beds, neighbors learn the full cycle of planting, tending, and harvesting through weekly garden education. The produce and flowers they grow nourish meals in the community kitchen and stock our weekly Market Cart. Along the way, residents gain practical skills, vocational experience, and the deeper lesson that growth is possible—in the soil and in life.

The Healing Gardens

Just steps from the cabins, the Healing Gardens offer space to pause and breathe. Surrounded by native plants, the sounds of water and birdsong, and the textures and colors of the earth, residents can rest, reflect, and restore. This sensory-rich environment reduces stress, fosters calm, and supports physical and emotional healing—an essential companion on the journey from crisis to stability.

A Proven Way to End Chronic Homelessness

A growing number of towns and cities across the U.S. have found a practical solution to homelessness through the
construction of micro-shelter communities. Today these solutions are being proven effective initiatives to provide a housing
first solution that will transition persons into permanent, stable housing solutions.
