We combine affordable housing with ongoing, personalized support so people with disabilities who are recovering from chronic homeslessness can thrive in homes of their own.

Where do people live? 

Supportive Housing allows qualifying people to live in long-term homes of their choice. Some people choose to lease a unit within a pocket neighborhood that New Beginnings owns while others choose to lease a unit on the private market. Each participant’s rent is subsidized so people living on disability income never have to pay more than 30% of their monthly income on housing and can keep 70% of their income to live on. The pocket neighborhood that New Beginnings developed serves as “second chance” housing for tenants who are working to resolve criminal or credit background issues or who do not have any tenant history due to long-term homelessness.

How do people stabilize and thrive?

In Supportive Housing, New Beginnings pairs affordable homes with ongoing support services that promote the person’s stability and thriving in their home and community.

The support team works with each tenant to personalize what supports they need and want and in their lives. The support team may include offering case management, peer recovery, and life skills coaching. Case Management helps people maintain connections to healthcare, mental health care, and mainstream benefits like SNAP. Peer Recovery promotes health and recovery when working with people who struggle with addiction. And life skills coaching helps people build the skills they need for living independently. Life skills coaching may focus on hygiene, clothing care, nutrition and cooking, home management, leisure skills, work, volunteering, money management, tenancy skills, and more.

Our Impact

Supportive Housing succeeds when we see people who have experienced long-term homelessness find autonomy, stability, and health as tenants in homes of their own. As of Summer 2024, we are supporting 5 individuals in Supportive Housing, with a 100% success rate.
